This study by Pastor Barry Forder is an overview of 1 Samuel 19-31 and all of 2 Samuel and was our 15th session in our through the Bible in a year series recorded during 2014 as part of our Sunday morning family services.
The books of 1st and 2nd Samuel take us from one of the darkest times in Israel’s history to their ‘golden era’, under the rule of king David. We will be introduced to Samuel, the last of the Judges, then see Saul, Israel’s 1st king, and finally see this shepherd boy become a man after God’s own heart and lead a nation.
Although much of this book is historical narrative, there are many lessons for the Church, and for all believers, all subtly left for us to glean as we pass by.
We must never look upon the Old Testament as purely the history of the Jewish nation, and we are not ‘New Testament Christians’ and should always be mindful that “whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope” (Rom 15:4)
May this overview prompt you to undertake your own study of these divinely inspired books.
