This teaching on Hebrews 11 was recorded ‘live from home’ as part of Calvary Chapel Portsmouth’s [Covid19 enforced] online service on 29th March 2020.
In this chapter, the writer to the Hebrews builds on his statement (quotation from Habakkuk 2:4) in the penultimate verse of chapter 10 “The just shall live by faith” by now going on to remind us of those who have gone before us who lived their lives by faith.
He makes the point that all of these ‘heroes of the faith’ were not building for here and now, but looking forward to that which is to come, the ‘exceedingly great and precious promises’ of all that lay ahead for those who walk with Jesus.
The challenge for the hearers, as it is for us, is not to look back to what once was, the ‘comfort’ we once found in earthly things, but to look ahead to the rewards and inheritance awaiting us if we continue to walk by faith – trusting Jesus. This should be our goal and focus.
May you be blessed and encouraged by this study.
