This teaching is our 35th session in our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Genesis by pastor Barry – given as part of our family service on 21st January 2018.
In this study, we look at the prophecy and final blessings Jacob pronounces over his sons before his death.
It is important to note that the blessings pronounced on them are dependant on how they have lived their lives. Judah, for example, defiled his father by sleeping with Bilhah – Rachel’s handmaid and Jacob’s third wife. As a result, he lost out on the blessings of inheritance that should have gone to the firstborn.
For Christians also, we will have a day when we will stand before the Bema Seat of Christ (see 2 Cor 5: 10) and be rewarded depending on how we have lived as Christians (See also 1 Cor 3:11-15). This has nothing to do with our salvation, but everything to do with our eternal rewards and the positions we will be given in Christ’s millennial kingdom.
Do we live for the temporary pleasures of this world? Or are we putting our treasures in heaven, looking for what will be in the ages to come?
You can listen to the audio on this web page, or save it for listening to later. We have also made available the Powerpoint slides (in PDF format) that outline the key points of this study.
We hope and pray this teaching will bless you and encourage you to undertake your own personal study and adventure in God’s Word!
