This study on 2 Peter 2:10-22 was given by Pastor Barry on 1st November 2020 as part of our Sunday morning on-line service.
In this study, Peter builds on the warning he has been giving regarding false teachers in the church. Peter says that they will come, and will deceive many!
Here he paints a picture of what they are like, and how the two main characteristic are their love of personal gain – be it position or material reward, and their disrespect and disregard for authority. Paul warned Timothy that in the last days there would be so-called teachers who would teach what people want to hear (2 Tim 4:3) – rather than speaking the truth in love.
The media is an unbridled power in today’s world, forming opinion rather than informing it. Sadly, from the Pope in Rome to the ‘average’ Christian in the street, political correctness and popular opinion seem to have more sway than the unchanging Word of God.
Peter’s message is clear: Jesus is coming back soon; we should be living lives that evidence we have been changed by His Grace. We must be on our guard against those with ‘great swelling words of vanity’ that might make us feel good, but would lead us back into a life dominated by the lusts of the flesh.
May you be blessed and encouraged by this study.
