This study on 1 Corinthians chapter 5 was given by pastor Barry Forder on 5th November 2023.
In this chapter Paul addresses two serious problems in the church at Corith. Firstly, there was a man within the fellowship in an immoral relationship, but secondly, the church had failed to do anything about it.
Paul makes it clear that the church must act to ‘purge’ out anything that draws believers’ hearts and affections away from Christ.
There are those in the church today who want to live worldly lives during the week, but think is ok to ‘put on their Sunday best’ when at church. No so. Being a Christian, a follower of Jesus, is a 24/7 lifestyle choice that must impact out thoughts, actions and behaviour. We must be different from the world around us because we have bought at a price so (as Paul will say in the next chapter) we are to honour God in our bodies as well as our spirits.
