This study of Hebrews chapter 8 was taught by Pastor Barry Forder on 8th March 2020 as part of Calvary Chapel Portsmouth’s family service.
In this chapter, the author reminds us of the point he has been making in the previous 7 chapters, namely that Jesus is better than Angels, Abraham, the Law, Moses, Aaron (and the Levitical priesthood) & Joshua!
Jesus is a High Priest who is able to ‘save to the uttermost’ those who come to God by Him. His sacrifice is greater than any sacrifice under the Law, and now He sits at the right hand of God – ‘ever living to make intercession for us’.
Our best efforts, our religion, our tradition cannot make us right with God, but our High Priest can!
He puts a new law, a new covenant, a new testament into play, that is not based on our ability to confirm or keep a set of rules. It is based on His ability to put a new law into our minds, a new desire in our hearts – if we are willing to put our faith in Him and simply receive it!
As a result, all our sin is eradicated! It is washed away.
This is really GOOD NEWS – this is the Gospel!
